Company History
Escano was the first institution specializing in diagnostic aids to open its doors in Medellín to meet market demand and provide images that would guide cranial and spinal surgeries. It was founded by neurosurgeons Mario Vásquez Soto and Hernán Melo León on March 22, 1982.
Dr. Melo and Dr. Vásquez began with the CT service and later expanded their service portfolio to include mammography and ultrasound. They led the institution for 23 years, contributing their experience and knowledge to the health of a large part of the local population.
In 2005, a group of visionary healthcare professionals and specialists made an attractive offer to acquire the company, which was accepted by the founders. Since then, a process of transformation and accelerated growth has begun, resulting from a significant investment in technology, state-of-the-art equipment, qualified personnel, and expansion and remodeling of the facilities.
The management of the Management, headed by Dr. Myriam Lya Ramírez de Velásquez, allowed Escano to progress as an institution providing services in Magnetic Resonance Imaging, Tomography, Mammography, Bone Densitometry, Ultrasound and X-rays.
In 2017, a new location opened in the municipality of Sabaneta in the Mayorca Mega Plaza Shopping Center, offering CT and MRI services.
In early 2018, the ultrasound service opened at the Sabaneta location, and later in September, it was complemented by the new General Medical Consultation and Gastroenterology services, aiming to meet the needs of residents in the south of the department.
In 2019, a new location was opened in Apartadó at the Chinita Clinic, with the CT service.
In 2020, the laboratory sampling service began. Despite the pandemic, the company remained open under all safety protocols, and gradually, as everything returned to normal, new services were launched, such as electrocardiograms in 2021 and intravenous fluid therapy and hyperbaric chambers in 2022 at the Sabaneta location.
In 2024, the Specialized Medical Consultation service will be inaugurated, with various specialists offering a broad portfolio of services to users; these include Neurology, Neurosurgery, Orthopedics, Gastroenterology, Internal Medicine, among others. Likewise, the Hyperbaric Chamber and IV Therapy services will be opened at the Prado campus.
The Dental Service will open in early 2025, and work is underway to build a new facility in the municipality of Rionegro, which will undoubtedly revolutionize the future of healthcare in Eastern Antioquia.
Over the years, the organization has continued to grow, supported by the development of strategic plans, customer service programs, social responsibility policies, and the creation of a quality system. This has allowed it to have a team of more than 250 employees serving more than 20,000 users per month and to become an institution with more than 40 years of experience.

We have three locations in strategic locations: one is located in the Prado Centro neighborhood of Medellín; another is located in the municipality of Sabaneta in the Mayorca Mega Plaza Shopping Center; and our newest location is located in Apartadó, inside the Chinita Clinic.
Starting in early 2026, we will have a new headquarters in Eastern Antioquia, specifically in San Nicolás, Rionegro, where we will offer the best healthcare services in the sector.
